adidas Nations Experience 2008: European Prospects by Jonathan Givony |
|---|
adidas brought a stronger group of European prospects to the US this summer compared to last year. As is often the case due to the type of prospects they are and the very specific strengths they bring to the table--the European squad took a few days to fully mesh and look comfortable playing with each other. By the end of the camp, though, they really started to show their potential and were only narrowly knocked out of the bracket in the semi-finals by the eventual champion 2010 US team. This was an excellent opportunity to evaluate two extremely intriguing prospects that we weren’t all that familiar with before—Deniz Kilicli and Tomas Satoranski, as well as a host of other well known names from the 1990 and 1991 age group.

| | 2008 Olympic Power Ranking by Luis Fernández |
|---|
As is the case every four years, this summer takes place the single most important international basketball event in the world, the Olympic Games. 12 teams will battle for the gold medal--only half of them stand a real chance, but it will be just one taking the Olympic glory back home.
Looking noticeably stronger than the last World Championship –more contenders, less forgettable teams, we should be able to witness an excellent tournament.

One of the hottest topics these days in the basketball world, NBA included, is how European teams are luring players away from the NBA with big money. We’re not talking about any big stars, but still this offers a relatively new scenario, with the Old Continent emerging as a viable option for players who are still the object of desire for NBA teams.
